Week of 6/19-6/25
My husband just discovered she’s on Spotify now. So it’s all Taylor, all the time right now.
Week of 6/12-6/18
Gaaahh. I am totally fangirling over the Flash musical episode…and especially GG.
Check it out: Awesomeness.
Week of 6/5-6/11
A little late. To honor Gregg.
Week of 5/29-6/4
Another bed time story.
Week of 5/22-5/28
Would you please clap your hands?
Now get up on your feet
I beg of you to get up and dance
It’s such a crazy kick-ass beat
Week of 5/15-5/21
Bed time story.
Week of 5/8-5/14
Week of 4/31-5/7
Hopefully you know exactly why I picked this song. If not, I’m sorry.
Week of 4/24-4/30
Oh dear. Haven’t listened to this in forever. But for some reason it came up and we ended up listening to it on repeat for a while.
“I got my feet on the ground
And I don’t go to sleep to dream
You got your head in the clouds
And you’re not at all what you seem
This mind, this body and this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways
So don’t forget what I told you; don’t come around, I got my own hell to raise”
Week of 4/17-4/23
A remake of the original.
Week of 4/10-4/16
Since KL has a new album out…
Week of 4/3-4/9
I heard this song playing in the kitchen this past week. I was reminded of how obsessed I used to be with Spoon. I dragged my friend to a concert to see them in Austin once, and we hung out with some guys from my class who also went. And that reminded me of how short-lived and tense my friendship with those guys ended up being when I unwittingly found myself sitting at a coffee shop on the receiving end of some confessions of love or like or whatever people at that age feel. So awkward. I hadn’t thought about that in forever. It’s amazing how music gets so intertwined with events in our life. Well, anyway, this song (and this album) are still amazing.
Week of 3/27-4/2
In honor of our time in Scotland, we’re putting up a song from the Trainspotting soundtrack. Had no idea we’d be hitting Iggy Pop back-to-back.
Week of 3/20-3/26
The Stooges have been consuming our evenings.
Week of 3/13-3/19
Here we go again…
Week of 3/6-3/12
2 for 1 special this week. I couldn’t choose. How do her songs so perfectly encapsulate those rare, singular moments in one’s life?
Week of 2/27-3/5
Since we are feeling so philosophical as of late, we are putting this one up for this past week. This song is inspired by Aristophanes’ speech in Symposium – my favorite story about love and the search for the “other half.” And isn’t it kinda weird that I would write a paper on that very speech and years later S would tell me someone put that story to music.
Week of 2/20-2/26
Best. Song. Ever.
Week of 2/13-2/19
I am not sure why this song just popped in my head. I love it. It reminds me of some high school friends. And unfortunately the tv show House. I think I’m like the one person that doesn’t like that show.
Week of 2/6-2/12
In honor of the amazing Adele and her many wins at the Grammy’s, here’s an Adele song and something other than ‘Hello’. Although you should listen to that too just as I intend to make us do today as we complete the last leg of our road trip. This is one of the first several songs of hers I heard and started playing incessantly…until I realized she doesn’t really make any bad songs. I believe it’s the first song she ever wrote and is about London. This seems a little fitting today as we are reflecting on all the sights, sounds, and encounters we’ve had on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Week of 1/30-2/5
I’m the worst at keeping this up to date, but I know a long time from now I’ll like this list. Anyway, another extremely well-fitting song from Frank Black (of the Pixies). There are two lines in here that I said to S almost verbatim last week.
Week of 1/23-1/29
In honor of hitting the road.
“Anyone can see the road that they walk on
Is paved in gold
And it’s always summer
They’ll never get cold
They’ll never get hungry
They’ll never get old and grey”
Week of 1/16-1/22
I forgot to put a song up for this week. I’ll just put one that comes on awfully frequently, but I never get tired of it.
Week of 1/8-1/15
We’ll conclude last week with a song from Phoenix, who originate from Versailles, France – since that was where we went today. This song was also featured in one of my favorite movies – Lost in Translation, which also resonates a bit more since being here. If you like this, I also recommend the songs Lisztomania and Everything is Everything. That last one was included on the Six Feet Under, Vol. 2: Everything Ends soundtrack, which is an amazing soundtrack – so listen to that too.
Week of 1/2-1/8
The other day we were talking about Bob Dylan with some friends here – and his winning of the Nobel Prize for Literature. And soon after this song came on the playlist. The audio might not work. If not, just check it out on youtube.
Week of 12/26-1/1
For some reason we have been listening to this a lot. From a fabulous movie…or more like musical film. All the songs are great, but this one has been repeated the most this last week.
Week of 12/19-12/25
Merry Christmas! There are a gazillion versions of this song and this one isn’t the best version one out there, but nevertheless – this is a taste of what we listened to (multiple times) and sang today while cooking our feast.
Week of 12/12-12/18
Instead of Christmas music, we are listening to the queen. This is the most frequently played song off of Beyoncé’s Lemonade album in our house. She’s not on Spotify, but you can find her highness at the youtube link below. Next week, we will definitely do a Christmas song.
Week of 12/5-12/11
Why this song? Just felt right.
Week of 11/28-12/4
Just heard this song. A little French pop to put a little pep in your step. Little sidenote: To preserve French language and music culture, 40% of all music played on radio stations has to be in French.
Song: Je Danse by Rythme de la Radio (the original is by Jenifer)
Week of 11/21-11/27
Greek bars/restaurants play a lot of covers of American music. We heard a cover of this song in a bar in Greece last week. Haven’t thought about the Police in a long time and this was a good reminder.
Song: Can’t Stand Losing You by The Police
Week of 11/14-11/20
This was just a weird week. Among several other things, it was my official last week of work. This felt appropriate. It’s also played in a very emotional scene in Chuck (tv show).
Song: Bye Bye Bye by Plans and Animals
